"Raw elegance:"
A term often used to describe Shelli Markee's jewelry could be used to describe the artist herself.
...........
.....Shelli Markee was born into a family of artisans in rural Minnesota. Her career as an artist was almost predetermined by nature, and ensured by a nurturing environment. Her family both inspired and encouraged her artistic predilections, and after their move to Houston, Shelli began her studies at the Glassell School of the Arts. Since her teen years, Shelli has made a career in fashion and the arts—as a model, make-up artist, garden designer, photographer, sculptor and now, silversmith.
.....Shelli’s work is highly influenced by nature and by the beauty she recognizes in organic forms. From her home studio in Seattle, Shelli carefully handcrafts each piece in her collection. For her rings, she hand–picks each stone. Each piece of silver is hand-forged, hand-hammered, and hand-wrought. Her background in fine arts is evident in each one-of-a-kind piece she creates. Form is important in her work, and this shows in her finished pieces which have a feel that is at once rustic and modern. Shelli welcomes collaboration and all pieces can be customized.
"Shelli's style is rustic, but elegant at the same time…she has a natural sense of style, good taste, and an eye for composition and color that she infuses into everything she does." – Maria, customer
