About SHELLI
With a deep background in photography, fashion, garden design, and music, Shelli Markee brings a wide-ranging sensibility to her art. She first explored jewelry and metalsmithing at Pratt Institute in Seattle in 2005, where she discovered the captivating possibilities of metalwork. That moment sparked a love affair with the medium that continues to grow each day, evolving alongside her curiosity and expanding into new forms.
For more than two decades, Shelli has been “drawing with wire,” bending and shaping line in ways that explore shadow, rhythm, and perspective. Her wire sculptures capture the essence of form with a simplicity that feels both playful and profound. Her jewelry practice echoes this same fascination with line. Working in silver, brass, and copper, she creates wearable works of art that extend her sculptural language into everyday life. Each piece is a study in balance and clarity, designed to be both elegant and enduring.
Most recently, Shelli has embraced tufting, a medium that introduces color into her practice in bold and unexpected ways. Where wire and silver offered her the purity of line, fiber opens a vibrant palette that challenges and delights her. Tufting allows her to expand her visual vocabulary into fresh territory while remaining rooted in her fascination with line, rhythm, and form.
Across all mediums, Shelli’s process is a meditation on balance, play, and transformation. Her art invites viewers to see line not just as a boundary, but as a living language that connects shadow, color, and form.
